A Big Thank You to Katusa Research Subscribers

On July 14, 2016, I published an essay to Katusa Research subscribers: How You Can Help Break the Canadian Air Cartel…and Start Flying Like a First-World CitizenIn the essay, I explained how Canada is the only country out of the world’s wealthiest 20 nations without an ultra-low cost airline. It’s a situation that has forced Canadian travelers to pay absurdly high fares… while having an artificially limited number of choices on where and when to fly. It’s time for Canadians to demand better. The addition of ultra-low cost airlines to the Canadian airline industry would create jobs, increase consumer choice, and reduce the price consumers pay to fly.I believe any great business or investment opportunity is one that creates tremendous value for consumers. I believe the large, entrenched Canadian air carriers (who I called the Canadian Air Cartel) should not be able to gouge travelers. That’s why I’m backing Mark Morabito and his team at Jetlines into the ultra-low cost carrier business. It’s why I called on Canada’s Minster of Transport to grant an exemption that would allow Jetlines to access the capital markets and start flying. And it’s also why I encouraged Katusa Research readers to contact the Minister of Transport and let their voices be heard.I’m writing today with good news. We just achieved something monumental. The Canadian government had a foreign ownership limit of a Canadian airline to 25%. Thanks to citizen protest, that has been changed. The Canadian government will now change the law on foreign ownership of airlines, allowing up to 49% foreign ownership of a Canadian airline. The Canadian Air Cartel’s days are numbered. Everyone travelling into, across, and out of Canada will now have more choice and pay lower fees. The Canadian government should be applauded for making a decision that is good for business and good for all Canadian travelers. This is truly a win-win situation.I’m writing this letter today “thank you” to all Katusa subscribers and to Mark Morabito and his team at Jetlines. The amount of feedback the Katusa alligators sent in was overwhelming. With Mark Morabito’s strong leadership, we helped make a difference in the Canadian airline industry.A big alligator “thank you” to all who helped.Jetlines’ victory is getting a lot press right now. But this is just the beginning of the story of Canada’s next great airline. I have many friends who own private jets, but as I told those friends, I’d rather be a big shareholder in Canada’s premier discount airline, Jetlines because I’m in the business of making money.

Regards,

Marin Katusa
